Richard Marc Gray Roberts

Richard was born at Littlethorpe Hospital, Easington Village, Peterlee County Durham at 23.56 21 August 1971. He was very badly shocked at birth as he got stuck.

He swiftly recovered into a friendly and happy little boy. His main pleasure was being outside playing and his friends.

He attended Shotton Hall School Peterlee, following a few years at Lowhills Road Nursery School. He trained as a bricklayer and then went into the army. The Royal Artillery, 4 Field Regiment and was posted to Osnabruck, Germany.

A tour of duty in South Armargh ended up with him loving Northern Ireland and the people there, he said God made that place.

It was during the Gulf war, when bordom set in that he became involved with drugs and he ended up, buying himself out of the Army to save any shame to his regiment.

Flitting from job to job, he was placed into a Dettox and came out August Bank Holiday, with little support. Two months later, he was killed instantly in a drink/drugs related car crash, 3 November 1999, getting drugs for a mate.

No other fatalities were caused, and I am sure he would be pleased about that.

I will never get over his death, and miss him so much.

Dear Richard,

YOU HAVE ALWAYS MEANT A LOT TO ME AND ALWAYS WILL…

There is this special part of my heart, where all the memories are kept and it will be yours forever.

The time we spent together was too short, but the things we went through would have lasted to the end of time.

In my dreams I always saw you happily married to a beautiful girl (jealousy ;-) having some children leading the normal “civi” life you had always dreamt of.

And then …

I don’t know how Vera heard about it, but first thing she did, was trying to get in contact with me. I was totally devastated and tried really hard to get some information, but nothing worked out.

I am sure I could have found your Mam, but thinking about the grief she must have gone through – no, I couldn’t.

Two days ago I found this beautiful website she created for you.

Having a place to go now is making me sort of happy.
Thank you very, very much Margaret.

I added a couple of pictures and hope you and your Mam don’t mind.

That is just how I would like to keep you in my mind:

charming
with a smile on your face
simply loveable

All I can say from your memorial site is, you have two beautiful children looking like you and a very strong mother, who is supporting a lot of people (TCF).

Have an eye on everybody from up there.

You will never be forgotten.

Sending you a big hug and kiss.

To Richard.

I think you'll have met my Tom by now ( he may not have been in the Army but he was a real daredevil) and so you are probably sharing all the good times you've both had!
I know you are both loved and missed sooooo much by not only us, your mums, but by everyone else you knew. So sleep tight and keep us a place up there!

Remember

Richard it is quite strange to have a place that is just for you. I am gald I have made this site for you.

It is somwhere to come and visit you. I am not going to be able to go to where your ashes are for long, such a steep hill. But you are here in my heart, you never left me.

So, really I need go no further than my own mind. I'm OK with that.

Love you, Mam
